Kinder Craft: Hooty The Paper Owl

I never had so much fun as I did when the kids were little sitting at the table making all kinds of fun arts and craft projects.  My walls and fridge were a gallery of things hand made at home all while keeping little hands and minds busy!

Today’s craft is geared towards your pre-schooler or kindergarten age kids.  I hope you enjoy making this with your little one(s).
Let’s start with supplies you’ll need:
  1. 3 white paper plates
  2. Yellow, brown and orange construction paper
  3. Child safe scissors
  4. Glue or stapler
  5. Googly plastic eyes (optional but loads more fun) can be picked up at any craft store and some $ stores
  6. Crayons, paint or markers your choice

On one paper plate, fold about 1/3 of the plate over (have the bottom of the plate facing forward) This plate will be the owls head

On the folded part, cut 2 short slits and fold them back up.  (These will be the owl’s tufts, although they look like ears, they are only feathers.  An owl’s ears are simple holes on the sides of the head)  Glue the center section down
Glue the googly eyes on the folded down section (or cut 2 large circles, glue them down, then draw a dot in the center)

Using construction paper, cut a small 1/2 circle with a little square off the rounded side.  Curve the edges around forming the cone.  Glue or staple it closed.

Glue the cone to the paper plate (using the rectangle, folded inside the cone) just beneath the folded part of the paper plate

Glue or staple the head to another paper plate

Cut another paper plate in half (these will be for the wings)

Glue or staple wings to the body at a single angle.  Using construction paper, cut out two tiny feet.  Glue them to the body

Color in the owl, drawing feathers, wings or other patterns…just have fun with it!
